“Olive Island,” Etajima
Etajima
Hands-on Experience
The warm climate of the Seto Inland Sea is well suited for growing olives.
Etajima was designated as “Olive Island” in 2011. Public and private sectors together are revitalizing the island.
At present, there are about 14,000 fruit-bearing olive trees (each year the number of olive trees increases), and people living on and off the island come in autumn to enjoy harvesting olives in both commercial and private olive gardens.
The harvest takes place from the middle of October to the beginning of November. Olives are picked by hand, one by one.
Reservations are requested if you would like to experience harvesting olives yourself.
Please contact the Olives’ Office in Etajima city.
