Mitarai Otomeza

Kure Spot of Interest

The Otomeza was built in 1937 as a modern theater incorporating the best architectural practices of the time. For a long time, it was an entertainment venue and a gathering place for locals, showing movies and putting on theatrical performances. After the war, it continued to be used as a movie theater until the 1960s when it became a sorting facility for oranges. The Otomeza was carefully restored to its original state in 2002.

Inside, the tatami mat seating is spread across two floors. The facility is comes equipped with modern theater equipment and the building is still used for a variety of local events and shows.
